We root them on in sheer admiration. Not because they win or even succeed. No, we admire them because…
They have the courage to play.
The work they put in…the sweat and blood…the time, effort, and sacrifice. The battle. It has all of the elements of a great story!
As parents, we take pics because we want to capture these stories. We have amazing cameras in our pockets (crazy), let alone “real cameras” that allow us to capture absolutely AMAZING pics of our kids.
But our action pics fall WAY short!
Blurry pics. Dark pics. Pics that are too far away. Worst of all, pics of the moments just AFTER the moment they were trying to catch (“stupid slow camera!!”).
But there’s good news: Anyone can learn to take amazing pics of their kids playing sports.
Introducing the Sports Photo Course For Parents
This course will not only teach you, step by step, how to master your camera, but how to think like a pro sports photographer.
- How to frame your shot to capture maximum impact.
- How to position yourself to where the light looks AMAZING.
- Where to stand in any sport to get the perfect action shots over and over.
- How to shoot in gyms, under Friday night lights, and ANYwhere.
- And ridiculous amounts more (see below).
About the teachers.
Hey folks! I’m Kyle Shultz, founder of Shultz Photo School (SPS). I’m completely humbled and grateful that over 120,000 have joined us at SPS. In the fall of 2016 I met Vincent Pugliese, veteran professional sports photographer of 23 years who has shot everything from Super Bowls to Stanley Cups to World Series.
I asked Vincent (with fingers crossed) about collaborating on a project to help parents take better pics of their kids on the field, court, rink, etc. He enthusiastically said yes, and as they say, the rest is history.
This course is took a year to film and coordinate.
But the best part is that it’s the culmination of a lifetime of photography experience.
Hope to see you inside!
-Kyle and Vincent

Here's What You'll Learn
The Sports Photo Course For Parents is like a college photography degree in 15 minutes per day over a month. Click any module below to learn more.
Kyle and Vincent kick off this opening module in the dugout at PNC Park (Pittsburgh Pirates stadium). The purpose of this module is to not only give a broad overview of what’s to come in the following weeks and months, but also give some practical advice that will get big results. It’s all about impact!
Here was our leading question: If we only had a few moments with a typical parent to help them with photographing their kids sports, what would we tell them? And what if we had to give advice that works with any camera (not just fancy sports cameras).
The answers result in this module!
Kyle: “Hey Vincent, what if we did a module where each lesson was sport specific. Imagine you have 5 minutes to give your top tips for baseball, be it positioning, lighting, camera settings, gear recommendations, etc. Then the next lesson do the same with basketball. Then football. Then soccer, hockey, track/field, etc…”
Vincent: “Sounds good to me!”
Thus: Module 2 is born.
You’ll find extensive tips and insights pertaining to shooting football, basketball, baseball/softball, soccer, hockey, swimming, track and field, and more!”
One of the challenges, and blessings, of shooting sports is that you have little control over the actual subject. You can’t place them in a certain spot, background, or light.
But you can position yourself. And you can use that position along with a handful of basic composition rules to take your photography to the next level. That’s what this entire module is all about!
- How the “take the picture button” actually does 3 separate things.
- The one method that will help you eliminate missing shots because of slow focusing times.
- 9 steps to nailing your focus every time.
- The easy way to get the best possible image quality out of your camera.
- THE 10 CAMERA COMMANDMENTS: Why you really only need to know 10 functions of your camera to get any shot you want.
At some point in your photography journey, you’re going to have to learn to drive your camera. No ifs, ands, or buts.
And that’s what these modules are all about. We’ll start with understanding exposure. And once we have that whipped, we’ll be able to more easily apply those concepts to our cameras.
You’ll learn everything you need to know to where you can create the image you see in your mind’s eye! Or if you can’t, you’ll know what you’re missing (such as a telephoto lens, etc).
- The one lens to get to take your photos to the next level
- How to know when it’s times to upgrade your camera
- The best lenses for everyday shooting, portraits, and capturing your kids playing sports.
- Accessories that belong in every bag.
- Learn exactly what gear you need, and DON’T need, to take your pics to the next level.
- Lenses can cost thousands of dollars. We’ll help you decide which lens to buy based on your shooting style.
- Should you upgrade your camera body first, or your lens? We’ll guide you!
- The accessories you need, and don’t need!
Photography is about more than just “cool pictures.” It’s about telling a story with a single image. Or a group of images.
If there’s one thing I (Kyle) admire about Vincent’s sports photography, it’s that he’s a true story teller. Vincent has spent the past 23 years studying and perfecting photojournalism. And in this module, we get to hear some of his top tips in response to a single question:
How do we create images that don’t just collect evidence, but document history.
You’ll love this module!
You’ll not only learn a half a dozen tactics and strategies to making money shooting sports locally (as well as the tools to pull it off)…you’ll learn what’s way more important: the right mindset to pull it off!
